Get your folder artwork right the first time

This is for our 9 x 12 pocket folder with 4-inch pockets. AI image tools usually make small, slightly soft pictures, and print needs 300 pixels for every inch. Choose your file, study the layout, build a prompt that avoids low resolution files, then check your image before you send it.

Line key

  • File edge. Artwork must reach this line: 0.125 in bleed on the outside edges and past the angled inner edge of each pocket.
  • Cut line. The final edge of the folder.
  • Fold line. The pockets fold up here.
  • ABCPocket area. Everything here is upside down in the file.

How the pockets work

  • The 4 in pockets cover the bottom of each 12 in panel. Their inner edges angle apart toward the top.
  • ABCPocket art reads upright here because it was rotated 180° in the file.

5. Check your finished artwork

After the AI makes your design, check the print file here before you send it to us. It is checked against the file chosen in step 1, in your browser, and is not uploaded.

Tips that prevent low-quality files

  • Send us the print file, not the preview. The preview has the template lines on it and is only for checking the layout.
  • Use the preview to check that your logo and text sit inside the cut lines, away from the fold and the business card slits.
  • Check every letter and number the AI draws. AI often misspells names, phone numbers and addresses. If any text comes out wrong or blurry, ask the AI to fix it or make that design again.
  • If you used your own logo, check that the AI did not redraw or change it.
  • If the check above says your file is too small, ask the AI to make it again at the full pixel size, or at its highest quality setting.
  • Keep text and logos off the pocket band in the full flat file. Want something printed on a pocket? Make it as a separate pocket image, rotated 180°.
  • Download the original file from the AI tool. Do not screenshot it.
  • In special requests, avoid words like “grainy”, “film”, “vintage” and “textured” unless you want visible noise.
  • Very bright screen colors, like neon or electric blue and green, print duller on paper.
  • Send PNG, TIFF or high-quality JPG.
